Lazada has announced a new round of layoffs affecting approximately 5% of its workforce across Southeast Asia. The move comes after the company conducted a review of roles across its regional markets to improve organisational efficiency and align resources with business needs.
According to reports, affected employees were informed on June 23, 2026. Lazada stated that the decision was not related to any artificial intelligence initiatives, but rather part of an internal restructuring process. The company also said it will provide support to employees based on the requirements of each market.
In Singapore, Lazada is working with the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) to ensure that affected employees receive the necessary assistance during the transition. The company is also engaging with relevant government agencies in other Southeast Asian markets.
This is not the first time Lazada has reduced its workforce. In 2024, the company carried out layoffs in Singapore, which led to discussions with the union and improvements to retrenchment benefits and employment support programs.
Founded in 2012 and acquired by Alibaba in 2016, Lazada remains one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce platforms, operating in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
As the e-commerce industry continues to evolve, companies like Lazada are adjusting their operations to remain competitive in a challenging business environment. While layoffs are difficult for affected employees, the company’s focus appears to be on streamlining operations and improving long-term sustainability.
